Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 4, 2026
Tfila Finder is a free, community-driven app for finding minyanim (prayer services), synagogues, Torah classes, and mikvahs by location. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how we use it.
Information We Collect
- Account information (Google / Apple sign-in): When you sign in with your Google or Apple account, we receive only your basic profile information — name, email address, and profile picture. It is used solely to identify you within the app (for example, associating content you add with your account).
- Location: The app requests access to your device location to show nearby prayer services, synagogues, Torah classes, and mikvahs. We do not store location history and do not share your location with third parties. The app can also be used without location permission via manual search.
-
Background location — nearby minyan alerts (optional, off by default):
The app offers an optional feature that notifies you when a temporary minyan is being
formed near you, so you can join it. It is off by default and is enabled only at your initiative, after
an explicit in-app explanation screen — the location permission is requested only after you accept.
Why access is needed while the app is closed: a temporary minyan is formed and takes place within minutes to a few hours. To know that you are in the area at that moment — rather than notifying someone who was there yesterday — the app refreshes your general area in the background, while it is not open. The alert itself is delivered precisely when the app is closed, so the service cannot be provided using location collected only during active use.
- What is sent: your general area only. Coordinates are rounded on the device itself to two decimal places (about one kilometer, neighborhood level) before being sent — we do not know your street or address.
- What is stored: your latest area only, in a single record. No location history, no route logging, and no movement tracking.
- For how long: it is deleted automatically after 48 hours without an update.
- What it is used for: solely to select the recipients of a nearby temporary-minyan alert. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or user tracking, is never sold, and is never shared with third parties.
- Turning it off: you can disable the feature at any time from the "Notifications" screen in the app. Disabling it immediately deletes the stored location from our servers.
- User-generated content: Content you choose to add — such as prayer times, new synagogues or minyanim, photos, and reports — is stored and displayed to all users, as the app is a shared community database.
- Technical data: Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports used to improve the app, and a push notification token if you enable notifications.
Google User Data
Tfila Finder's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google account data is used only for authentication and identification within the app. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never transferred to third parties.
Data Sharing
- We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
- Data is stored on Microsoft Azure cloud services that power the app.
- We disclose information to authorities only if required by law.
Prohibition of Data Scraping
The information in the app — including synagogues, minyanim, prayer times, Torah classes, and mikvahs — is a community database built voluntarily by our users, and is intended for personal use through the app only.
- Automated access to the service is strictly prohibited — including via bots, crawlers, scripts, or any other automated tools.
- Scraping, data mining, bulk copying, extraction, or duplication of the database, in whole or in part, by any means, is prohibited.
- Use of the service's API outside the official app is prohibited — including direct calls to our servers, access from third-party software, or any access not made through the app itself.
- Commercial use of the data or its distribution outside the app without our prior written consent is prohibited.
Violation of these terms may result in blocking access to the service and legal action. For data-use requests (e.g., research or community projects), please contact us at tfilafinderapp@gmail.com.
Security
All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS), and data is stored on secured cloud infrastructure. We take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information from unauthorized access.
Data and Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting tfilafinderapp@gmail.com. Requests are processed within 30 days.
Children
The app is intended for a general audience, is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
